Making a Worm House

If afternoon comes and you're at a loss, try this sillyness: Making a worm house. The hardest part is finding the worm. After that, things took off. Here we looked in the water meter pit to find a worm. All of the kids now know how to use a stick to pry out the heavy cement cover to the water meter, thanks to our eldest. No luck. SA ended up finding one in a wet corner of the lawn. When they had all had their fill of passing it around and watching it writhe, I sent the kids off to make him a home. In the end the lucky worm ended up with a home, second home, and a shed. See what your kids come up with. SA remembered that our pet snails ate bits of pumpkin, and as you can see, offered a bit of something leftover from Halloween to his new tennant. While the older two kids did most of the construction, the activity also involved rock finding, which was delegated to the babies, who are now near two and can follow directions.
